Cost of Living in Gurgaon: Rent, Bills and Commute

A rough monthly budget for living in Gurgaon: rent for a sharing flat vs. a whole flat, utilities, food, commute and moving-in costs.

Rent

Rent is usually the largest monthly cost, and it depends on the area, the type of building, the furnishing and whether you rent a whole flat or a room in a shared one. Check current flats for rent in Gurgaon for the prices people are actually asking.

Sharing a 2 or 3 BHK splits the rent between flatmates, which is why sharing flats in Gurgaon are so popular.

Utilities and maintenance

Budget for electricity (power backup in societies is often billed separately and costs more per unit), WiFi, gas, a maid or cook and society maintenance if it isn't included in the rent. Split them fairly using one of the methods in how to split rent and bills with flatmates.

Commute

Commute costs depend heavily on where you live. Being within walking distance of the Rapid Metro or Yellow Line keeps them low, while daily cabs through Gurgaon traffic get expensive. Our guide to the best areas to live in Gurgaon is organised by commute.

Moving-in costs

Expect a security deposit (often one to three months' rent), the first month's rent and any furniture if the place isn't furnished. A furnished room in a sharing flat avoids most of this.
